Light & Motion Bluefin (for Canon)

The 2011 Bluefin Canon housing offers the most complete, easiest to use solution for underwater videography.

Simply lock a supported Canon compact camcorder into the housing, and you are ready to go!

Bluefin places all key camera controls at your fingertips, adds programmed buttons for specialized underwater shooting such as one touch white balance, making the Bluefin a joy to shoot with.

 

Housing construction aluminium
The most reliable enclosure in the industry, the Bluefin is built around a custom extruded body with machined front and rear plates, the housing uses double o-ring seals at every connection along with locking latches at all user controlled openings, built-in moisture alarm, and minimal housing penetrations, making Bluefin the most reliable enclosure in the industry.

Camera controls
Advanced camera controls are vital for professional results.  The Bluefin provides full camera control at the handles.

The handles use standardised programmed keys placing important controls a press away including one-touch white balance, you can white balance your camera faster underwater than at the surface!

In addition the menu buttons on the left handle allow the user to navigate all commands available in the touch screen menus of the supported Canon Camcorders.

Wireless control
The Bluefin handles are independently sealed and communicate wirelessly through a sealed port in the housing. The innovative design of the control handles means fewer housing penetrations for a more reliable system design. The sealed handles are powered by lithium camera batteries that are easily field replaceable. The handles typically run for 2 years before needing a battery change.

 

Cameras supported
Bluefin models support both Canon and Sony compact camcorders and are future compatible with just a camera tray change and handle re-programming from the factory. The following Canon models are supported with this factory pre-configuration:

Monitor back16:9 LCD High visibility screen
The standard Bluefin monitor, makes focusing and color checking your shots a breeze, even in bright daylight. 

The nearly 180 degree viewing angle and easy color, brightness, and contrast adjustments make this the best compact system on the market.

The monitor back features external controls for adjusting colour, brightness, and contrast along with indicator lights for record, low battery, and a flashing indicator if the camera tray sensors detect water in the bottom of the housing.

The monitor back houses the control panel and interface electronics behind the splash cover. The electronics are modular and field replaceable. The battery pack mounts to the monitor back and carries 4 x AA batteries. Recommended high capacity NiMh rechargeable batteries deliver approx. 8-hour run time.

Built into the bottom of the monitor back is an optical port that sends wireless contol signals from the handles. Add any of the Sunray lights to the Bluefin housing and you can experience the ease of remote on/off control at your fingertips.

Wet/Dry microphone
The Bluefin is the only housing on the market to offer a good wet/dry mic which can record sound topside as well as underwater.
(available for camera models that support a remote microphone jack)

 

 

Colour correction filter
Easy user activated 'flip' design restores color up to 25ft. New for 2010/11 as an optional extra the flip arm also supports changeable macro diopters tailored for use with the flat port.

 

 

Flip Macro Optional
Bluefin allows the user to attach either the standard color correction filter or a new internal macro diopter on the flip arm. Install the color correction filter on wide angle dives or switch to the x4 diopter and flat port for up close work.

 

Fathom Imaging Designed and built accessory optics

Light and Motion and Fathom optics have also developed an all new wide angle zoom through optic for the new Canon S20, S21 and S200 line of camcorders announced by Canon.

All the Fathom optics have exceptional sharpness and resolution. They are assembled and tested and guaranteed by the manufacturer. A 90 degree wide angle optic is a great all around lens that can shoot seahorses to most big pelagic fish and mammals.

Recommended lighting
The lights recommended for the BlueFin Line are the Sunray 1200 or the Sunray 2000x. Links for both can be found below.

Both systems have new Low Self Discharge NiMh battery packs which have an extended shelf life of up to 9 months without needing to be charged, and come with Light & Motions 120v/220v multi-chemistry fast charger with built in battery management firmware to minimize charge time and maximize battery life .
